Creating copy for multiple platforms can be time-consuming, but with AI-driven workflows, you can automate much of this process. In this guide, I’ll walk you through how to build an AI copywriter using Make.com and Airtable.

This setup will allow you to generate on-brand copy for Facebook and Twitter quickly and efficiently, with the flexibility to expand to other platforms as needed.

Step 1: Setting Up Airtable

Start by creating a new base in Airtable. This base will be the foundation where all your copy requests are stored.

  • Create a New Base: Name it something relevant like "AI Copywriter Workflow."

  • Define Your Fields: Add fields such as Brief Name, Platforms, Copy Request, Status, Assigned Copywriter, and Number of Variants. These fields will capture all the details necessary for generating your copy.

  • Form Entry: Airtable allows you to create a form where users can input their copy requests. This form will be the entry point for your workflow.

Step 2: Building the Workflow in Make.com

Next, you’ll connect Airtable with Make.com to automate the workflow.

  • Create a New Scenario: In Make.com, start by creating a new scenario and choose Airtable as your trigger module. This triggers the workflow whenever a new form submission is made.

  • Connect to Airtable: Select your Airtable base and table, and set the trigger to run based on the "Created Time" field. This ensures that new entries are picked up by the workflow.

  • Google Docs Module: If you have brand guidelines stored in a Google Doc, add a Google Docs module to fetch this document. This provides the AI with the context it needs for generating on-brand copy.

  • Integrate OpenAI: Add an OpenAI module to your workflow. Configure it to use the latest GPT-4 model and input the system message that defines the AI's role as a social media copywriting expert.

  • Structure the Output: Provide a clear prompt structure, including platforms and the number of copy variants needed. Ensure the output is in JSON format for easy parsing.

Step 3: Parsing and Iterating the Output

Once the AI generates the copy, the output needs to be parsed and distributed across your Airtable records.

  • Parse JSON Output: Add a JSON parsing module in Make.com to break down the AI-generated content into individual posts.

  • Iterate Through Posts: Use an iterator module to loop through each post and match it with the corresponding platform and content in Airtable.

  • Update Airtable Records: Update your Airtable records with the generated copy, assigning a status such as "Waiting for Human Review" to indicate that the copy is ready for final edits.

Step 4: Customising and Scaling Your Workflow

With the basic AI copywriter in place, you can start customising and scaling the workflow:

  • Add More Platforms: Expand the workflow to generate content for additional platforms like Instagram or LinkedIn.

  • Refine Prompts: Experiment with different prompts in OpenAI to fine-tune the style and tone of the generated copy.

  • Automate Notifications: Add a notification module to alert your team when new copy is ready for review through email, Slack, or Google Chat.

Conclusion

You now have a powerful AI copywriter that can generate social media posts in seconds. This workflow saves time and ensures consistency in your brand messaging across platforms. By leveraging Airtable’s flexibility and Make.com’s automation capabilities, you can significantly improve your content creation process.
